I wrote this essay toward the end of the summer of 2007. It begins my graduate thesis and introduces the crux of my thinking regarding my last MFA show. It’s written in the spirit of Tony Smith’s retelling of his experience driving down an unopened portion of the New Jersey Turnpike in a 1966 interview in ArtForum by Samuel J. Wagstaff.
